Course Description:
This course will introduce students to consumer law. Consumer Law protects consumers by prohibiting practices that are
unfair, deceptive and/or fraudulent. This course provides an overview of numerous consumer laws that address the harm
caused to consumers. This course involves review and discussion of the FDCPA, FCRA, Truth-in-Lending Act and will
also address common law claims.
Course Goals/Objective:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to understand the goals of basic consumer laws that provide
protections and remedies. Improve critical reading abilities of contracts and regulations and statues. Develop skills in
identifying ambiguous and presumptive and unfair or deceptive acts and practices or missing facts needed to apply the law
based on real life situations. Students will learn how to file claims to assert these rights.
Consumer Law 101 Curriculum:
• Introduction to Consumer Law
• Understanding the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
• Understanding the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)
• How to read and breakdown a contract
Consumer Law 102 Curriculum:
• Court Preparation
• Mock Trials
This is a live class, scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 pm (est.) The upcoming class will start on 8/15/23 and will end on November 2nd (with a break the week of 9/11/23- 9/16/23.)
